The first thing we noticed about the house was the fabulous fleecy notches, it was love at first sight. The brief for the project was to create “the feeling of space”. Intuitively we would have pushed the extension to the south to make way for a large north facing garden but given the houses proximity to an park over the road, pure area was not the only goal.
We decided to put the new kitchen / living / dining right up the guts of the block allowing for beautiful courtyard gardens either side.
A shaded retreat in summer and a spot for chasing the sun cocktails the evening. The design allows for the most amazing cross ventilation and the big notched roof embellishes and celebrates the existing ornamentation of the house.
